Shane Pearlman

I lead an amazing team of UX, UI, Web + Mobile Design professionals. Along with solving business problems for our clients, I manage all our product lines. I have the most fun in the loosely defined space between ideas and execution and have a gift for noticing patterns.

I am an active freelance evangelist and a founder of FreelanceCamp. Along with speaking at conferences (SXSW, Future of Work, eBay), I love to write and have published numerous articles (Mashable, CopyBlogger, A List Apart, FreelanceSwitch).

When I'm not working I'm heavily involved in social good projects, focusing on helping local government run efficiently and transparently with financial responsibility. And when I sneak away, I surf some of the best waves in the world courtesy of living in Santa Cruz, CA and cuddle my lovely wife & daughter.

  • Mile 2 with Sassy

That girl can go!!! About mile 1.5 Sassy decided she was done being in the stroller. She joined me for 1/2 a mile while mom, grandpa and aunt kris ran behind us (and then scooted ahead to take photos). If we could all run / skip with the joy and abandon of my 2 year old there would be no obesity and very few frowns.

  • The best swells are on holiday

Why are the best swells always on holidays? It is so wrong. I need my family to move to a surf friendly place so that I don’t keep missing out.

  • Working remotely with a new baby

Our team is popping babies out left and right. If you join us, be careful as odds are, you (or your spouse) is about to get pregnant. I’ve been wondering how I could help Peter, Reid, Brandon & Lucas prepare for something they have tried to imagine but can’t know until they are in the thick of it. Having a child is challenging for anyone, but if you are also trying to run a company …

  • Sassy’s First Wave!!

MY little lass sassy just caught her first surfing wave. What an awesome smile. Not bad for a fairly reserved 2.5 year old. Must be the awesome princess pink wetsuit and lifejacket. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time.

  • Bike fitting

Did my first round of bike fittings. Turns out this is a fairly long process. 58cm frame as I have a long torso for a guy my height (is that a nice way to say I have short legs?). I am quite flexy for a dude so no restrictions from a body posture perspective. Next step: try a bunch of bikes. Today I rode a Cervelo r3. Crazy light, super fast, nice shifters but felt …

  • Pedro Pan and His Tinkerbelle

Sassy and I went trick-or-treating yesterday. I expected to be out 30 minutes or so, but it turns out, my girl was committed. I told her that we were going to hit up a few houses and get some candy from people to make mom feel better (julie had minor foot surgery for a broken book vessel that morning and couldn’t come). Sassy went from house to house for 2.5 hours, saying “candy for my …
