We just pushed an update to our Facebook Events add-on, and you’ll want to update to the 1.0.5 release whenever possible. It is mostly bug fixes, addressing a number of changes or inconsistencies with the Facebook API that have been reported at the forums. These include a couple fairly significant adjustments to the handling of time zones. Please note there are no accompanying builds of The Events Calendar or Events Calendar PRO, so you should have no problem running this on the already-live 2.0.11 builds of both.

Release Notes for WordPress Facebook Events 1.0.5:

Small features, UX and Content Tweaks:

Incorporated new Polish language files, courtesy of Marek Kosinski.

Bug Fixes:

International time zones no longer converting to local times by default.

Various improvements to handling of imports from one time zone into another one.

Fixed an issue where images were failing to import or generating an error for certain users.

Improved how plugin addresses venue imports to minimize duplicates (though note: Facebook’s API is limited in such a way that we cannot cut out duplicate venues 100% at this time).

Organizer phone number no longer displays as Facebook page’s hovercard ID.

Fixed an issue with unreachable code in Tribe_FB_Importer::json_retrieve().

Various improvements & enhancements to improve integration with the forthcoming The Events Calendar 3.0 release.

This release should address a number of the concerns we’ve heard lately…thanks to everyone who has reported their findings so far. If there’s anything that remains a pain point, or if we introduced some code that throws a wrench into things, let us know over at the forums.

The updates released today are purely necessary to ensure things run smoothly with the 2.0.11 code we released earlier this afternoon for The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO.

WooTickets 1.0 did not require an update to be compliant with the 2.0.11 code, so don’t worry about making any changes there. But if you update core and PRO to 2.0.11 — which you should, since as we noted in the other post, updating resolves a somewhat critical issue impacting certain sites — you’ll need to update these plugins as well for the smoothest experience possible.

Though we hadn’t planned another 2.0.x update before releasing The Events Calendar 3.0, a couple critical matters came to our attention this week that required it, and as of this afternoon we’ve released The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO 2.0.11.

This is a relatively small update, but covers a couple of important issues:

First, and most significantly, was a jQuery problem that emerged in the forums a couple days ago. When jQuery 1.9 came out this past week, it removed some functions that we were still using which would affect not only functionality with our plugin but with a user’s overall site (since if one thing hiccups with jQuery, everything on the site chokes). This impacted anyone running jQuery 1.9…since some themes automatically load the latest version, this became an issue we saw reported by multiple users pretty immediately upon the new jQuery release.

Second, there was a problem reported in the forums related to the default Twenty Eleven theme where — on the Default Page Template, in Twenty Eleven only — embedded Google Maps were appearing as broken images and/or generally looking broken.

–

Both of these should be fixed in the 2.0.11 releases, which you’ll want to update to as soon as possible. Once you’ve done that, if you’re running any of our add-ons (other than WooTickets), you’re going to want to update those too.

Thanks to everyone who reported these issues early and allowed us to get them patched/deployed quickly.

As some of you may be aware, there were a couple of bugs that emerged in Community Events & Events Calendar PRO with the release of WordPress 3.5 earlier this week. These issues impacted both the display of the backend events list and your frontend events/community submission form. Once these were reported to us, we got the team together to strategize a fix and figured out the most effective course of action last night.

As of a few minutes ago, hotfixes have been released for Community Events 1.0.4 and Events Calendar PRO 2.0.10 (the core The Events Calendar was not impacted). To get the latest code:

Log into the tri.be website with the credentials you used to purchase Events Calendar PRO and/or Community Events.

Navigate to Account Central -> Downloads.

Re-download Events Calendar PRO 2.0.10 and/or Community Events 1.0.4.

Overwrite the old version(s) of Events Calendar PRO and/or Community Events 1.0.4 with the newly-downloaded files.

Keep in mind that the version numbers will not change with the new code — this was a hotfix, rather than a fresh release. It also means that users will not be provided with an update prompt, as this technically is not a new build. Anyone who experienced problems with the 3.5 update on PRO/Community will need to take the steps outlined above to fix the issue.

Thanks to everyone for being diligent in reporting the bugs quickly. If anything else emerges as you continue to use your freshly-updated WordPress 3.5 site, let us know over at the forums and we’ll do our best to get them sorted.

Hot on the heels of our November maintenance releases yesterday (with Events 2.0.10 leading the charge), this afternoon we want to ease into the weekend with one last bit of excitement: the launch of our WooTickets add-on! As of a few minutes ago, WooTickets 1.0 is out in the wild and available for purchase. If you act quick, you might even be able to kill two birds with one stone and apply today’s 30% off discount towards it…

In terms of documentation, the place to start would probably be our WooTickets New User Primer. (Right now it’s just text, but early next week we’ll add the video tutorials as well). We’ve got Jonah from our support team hard at work on the WooTickets hooks/filter documentation, which will be published Monday or Tuesday. Make sure you’ve also read the readme.txt file bundled with the plugin as it may shed some light on how to best get your questions answered. Lastly, we’ve got a brand new WooTickets forum here on the tri.be site where our support staff is waiting to help you out.

Now that the final touches have been put on the plugin and it’s passed all our QA tests, we didn’t want to delay any further…there are a lot of folks eagerly awaiting this add-on and we figured it’d be nice to give them through the weekend to begin playing around with it. We’ll be promoting it more actively come the new week…but are excited to see how the early adapters who snag a copy today or tomorrow like what they see.

Remember, you’ll need at least The Events Calendar 2.0.10 AND the latest version of WooCommerce to get this running properly. Thanks to everyone for their support and interest so far!

Along with the rest of our stable of plugins, Facebook Events got a small refresh today with a couple of tweaks for the 1.0.3 build: one new set of modified translation files, another bug fix due to a change in Facebook’s API.

Fixed an issue impacting some users (due to a recent change in the Facebook API) where attempting to import Facebook events yielded an error, as discussed in this thread.

The latter seemed to be a particular pain point for our users this past month, so we’re hoping their issues are resolved across the board based on the new code introduced by Tim from our dev team. As always, if you’re noticing something that could be done better or isn’t functioning like it should, let us know over at the forums.

Bug Fixes:

Tested fully against the new WordPress Twenty Twelve theme and cleared up aesthetic issues where needed.

Removed “Organizer” and “Venue” panels from the Appearance -> Menus screen (core only).

Fixed a bug where the option to show/hide an event’s end date in the Events Advanced List Widget did not work (PRO only).

There was previously no modal window when trashing individual instances of a recurring event; that is no more.

Cleaned up event query filters to prevent conflicts.

Event-specific settings no longer revert to default upon updating the plugin.

Rewrite rules are no longer one step behind (meaning you won’t need to flush permalinks as often).

Warnings/notices no longer litter the page in instances where no upcoming events are scheduled.

Default permalinks are no longer malformed.

Removed a PressTrends-generated notice that appeared upon activation.

Removed remaining sp_ functions.

Fixed an issue where default permalinks caused multiple errors when viewing a recurring event and venue page (PRO only).

Removed various notices/errors from core + PRO.

Users should have begun receiving update prompts already; but remember that if you don’t, you can always go to Dashboard -> Updates and manually check again. Remember that each new add-on release is dependent on this 2.0.10 code to function…so update Events/PRO before updating any add-on to ensure as smooth an experience as possible.

Are you a PRO user looking to renew an expired license? While we’re still putting the finishing touches on our renewal functionality, we can provide you with a coupon in the interim that entitles you to a 30% discount on a new license (the same amount you’d be paying to renew your existing one). Send us an email to pro@tri.be referencing your license key # and the date it expired so we can get you sorted.

We’ve been hard at work on The Events Calendar 3.0 these past few weeks, but up until now the only eyes that have seen what’s in store have been our own. As of today, however, we’re far enough that it’s time to introduce this puppy to the community. That’s why we’re announcing our next usability test — focused exclusively on Events 3.0 — has been scheduled for Thursday, 11/15. This is the first announcement of that UX test and serves as an official call for volunteer participants. As it stands we’ve got all three slots open:

8:30am-9:30am PT

9:30am-10:30am PT

10:30am-11:30am PT

What exactly will we be focused on? We’ll provide specifics to confirmed participants in an email once the details are finalized, but this test will be heavily centered on frontend experience: new/updated views, features like geolocation or our skeleton stylesheet, and/or a couple of fresh widgets. As usual we’ll be asking participants to provide feedback as to what works, what doesn’t and what they found confusing during our real-time Skype chat.

If you’re interested in participating, please make sure you meet the base requirements (and confirm as much when requesting one of the open slots):

Adults over the age of 18. Sorry, but no children will be able to participate.

English-speaking. Either English is your first language or a strong, clear command of it.

On a fast internet connection. This one is important — we’re going to be doing screensharing and other actions that will not work on a slow network.

In a quiet place. We realize a lot of folks work out of coffee shops, but you’ll need to be someplace where there isn’t an ambient or otherwise distracting sound.

Some basic experience with The Events Calendar (ideal, but not required). We would really prefer to have testers who have played around with The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO 2.0 and are familiar with the current architecture; these users will provide more value as to the changes based on their experience so far.

Remember that any participant will be given a free license for Events Calendar PRO or the add-on of their choice, as our way of saying “Thank you.” If you’re still interested, are available during one of the defined slots and meet the criteria…send us an email with a little bit of information about yourself and why you’d like to participate.
