Money is what stands between me and my next goal. I need to raise funds to bring my true vision for Babble Soft to life...because I'm running out of my own money.

By the way, can I change my question to "What do you want people to remember about you when you are gone?" I ask them when I interview people on their thoughts on success. I wasn't sure if I could use it because my writing partner actually came up with it first, but I think it's better than the one I came up with on my Entrepreneurial Self Portrait. :-)

Hey Shane,

A valid goal is one which creates evangelists for your company. This can be the people you work with or the clients you have because after all this is both the definition of management - making people want to do stuff (work, for example) for the company, and the definition of solid marketing - making people want to talk about your product/service.

It's much harder to make two sales than one. If the person comes back then you know you have done something right. You know you have motivated them to continue the relationship with you. If you keep doing things right the person will talk about you to someone else...

It's hard to attract great people to work with you and hard to make them want to stay but if they do, again you have done something right.

All things stem from the capacity to create a desire in people to work with or for you (and money alone is not enough, we have an assistant who was paid twice as much where she worked before (big, hotshot corporation) which she dumped to work for us).

A stupid goal is one which doesn't do the above.

Sorry I'm late with this after I asked you to answer your own question. :) I guess even a beta release never runs totally smoothly... been swamped between a needy site and a needy 2 year old. I loved your post.. especially the part about the pope. :)

What stands between me and my next goal? Time.. finding time. I need to get by a pile of laundry, a pile of toys, Christmas shopping, cooking, etc. I'm not sure if I have enough time to get to the point where I would be my own worst enemy. Right now it's probably my kitchen. (Today's site release was brought to you by a lot of unwashed dishes.)

oh the agony of having our link-backs broken (ok this is an official call for help - we are too damn busy to fix this ourselves and could use a hand)...

After all, when Michael Martine at Remarkablogger thinks both Naomi and my answers were worth noting, I wish my site would point back like a good little site ... you evil word press black sheep installation.

ok James & Harry - you two owe us a story!

Did you actually meet in person before working together? It sounds like the balance you provide for each other is the kind of chemistry that drives a powerful organization.

@ Tim - that is an interesting comment. How do you define a valid goal versus a stupid one? Is it a question of vialibility? Or perhaps on that gets people motivated? Or on that is synchronized with your life goals (but what about your team)?

What stands between me and my next goal is my capacity to make the goal and make it pertinent to our company. Having direcion doesn't just fall out of a clown's ass one has to work on it and attaining a stupid goal is just as bad as having no goal. This is a longer way of saying "me", but I didn't want to be like everyone else. :)
