Manually Checking for Updates to Modern Tribe Plugins

Published on: June 20, 2012 | Categories: Tutorial

With each release of The Events Calendar PRO or a related add-on, we get a few users following up after we publish our announcement: “Why am I not seeing the update prompt,” they wonder, “when you just told me this product has been released?” This becomes even more confusing based on the fact that updates to plugins on the WordPress.org repo will not always show an update prompt at the same time as those PRO/paid add-ons that we’ve launched on the tri.be website. So even if The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO both launched with a 2.0.7 update one day, you might at the beginning see a prompt to update the free version but not PRO.

The prompt for any purchased plugins will eventually show up, assuming you have a valid license key in place under Settings –> The Events Calendar –> Licenses. But if you want to “force” it, the method is simple…just log in on the backend of your site and click Dashboard –> Updates in the left-hand admin menu:

Dashboard Updates

If the update for your Modern Tribe plugin doesn’t show yet, hit the “Check Again” button atop the page:

Check Again

By this point, any of your Modern Tribe plugins that have updates available will show on this page (regardless of whether they were downloaded at WordPress.org or purchased on the tri.be site). Simply select the plugin(s) you want to update, follow the instructions on the screen and you should be all set.

One last point: remember that in lieu of updating, you can also always download the latest release straight from the tri.be site. Log in, navigate to Account Central -> Downloads, and select the plugin you want. By default, the version you download will always be the latest release (as long as you have an active license).
