When we click on the ical export and open it with Outlook2010 the export creates a whole new calendar. I have seen other posts regarding this issue suggesting editing the plugin source files, but I’d like to avoid that if possible. Doing so might cause issues with future updates of the plugin. Is there a work around for this issue?

It sounds like you may well have seen these threads (and the corresponding plugin by Andy Fragen) but just in case you did not:

There’s not too much more I can really add here, and Andy’s plugin could well be a fast and easy solution for this issue (and will avoid the need for you to modify core plugin code).
