If you were a 1.3.x user and participated at our old forum, you’ll remember we had a running Showcase thread (http://support.makedesignnotwar.com/discussion/108/showcase) for users to highlight what they’d done with the calendar.
Since 2.0 has been out a while and the numbers prove that a lot of folks are using it, I wanted to get a similar thread up here. If you’ve got 2.0 on your site and would be willing to share your integration with the rest of the community, this is the spot to do it…just drop in a link and any thoughts/observations you had. I know we’d appreciate it, and so would other users trying to best figure out how to integrate with their site.
We’re looking forward to seeing what you’ve come up with.
December 5, 2011 at 6:46 pm #11871RobMemberJust so you all have a few ideas to start with, I dug through the old Showcase forum at the MDNW site and picked out a few of my favorites. While not all of these sites will be running 2.0 (some still may be on 1.3.3) they’re all good examples of what you can with Events Calendar PRO…and should tide us over until some new submissions come through.
* http://www.theviewareonfire.com/events/ (hey, I’ve heard that band…cool to see they’re using our calendar)
* http://www.wallstreetinstitute.cz/events/ (note the color coded categories!)
* http://www.pendletonwhisky.com/events (looks slick, love the calendar tagline)
* http://www.events-manchester.co.uk/events (real unique, cool approach)
* http://ncmusicfactory.com/events/ (another nice custom integration)
* http://www.exploringlincoln.com/events/ (interesting use of a ‘legend’ on the calendar)
* http://thejoyofsound.com/events/ (just a simple, nice looking calendar)What about you? Is your site ready to be shared yet?
December 12, 2011 at 2:33 pm #12144ErnieParticipantI built an events page that shows relevant events related to the Asian American community on this page: http://events.8asians.com/events/
As of right now it’s pretty straightforward, although I did create a modified RSS feed. I use this modified events feed to create an events widget on our main blog page at http://www.8asians.com (right column, scroll down to “APA Events.”)
Would love any feedback; I’m in the process of migrating my other client calendars to 2.0; once it’s done and the templates are good I’ll update the forum here as well.
Thanks!
– ErnieDecember 12, 2011 at 2:58 pm #12163RobMemberThat’s looking real solid, Ernie — good work. The inclusion of the custom feed is particularly slick…we’ve had a few users requesting an easier way to implement something along those lines, so it’s quite likely that sooner or later something “official” along those lanes will be making its way into the code base.
What format is your data for the other content you’re migrating? We’ve got a CSV-based importer that you’re more than welcome to test (still in beta, but totally functional) if it’d help you…
December 13, 2011 at 5:39 pm #12235RobMemberHere are a couple more examples that Shane and I noticed today, which we thought might be worth sharing:
* http://soindiana.org/events/ (there are lots of cool mods on here: filtering by category, ajax details in list view, keyboard hotkeys on month browse, and more. It may not be the fastest site on the web, but very cool and a nice unique use of the calendar plugin)
* http://www.itourcolumbiamontour.com/event-calendar/upcoming/ (aside from just being a nice looking site, check out how cool the “filter by date range” options up top are)Aside from Ernie, nobody has offered up their sites yet. Don’t be scared! You can feel free to submit them via email (so we post for you), if you’re into that sort of thing: https://theeventscalendar.com/showcase/.
December 20, 2011 at 10:29 am #12542RobMemberHere’s another solid site, and the first to come through our Showcase Submissions intake form here on the site. The user, Seth, notes: “Our calendar view is pretty stock, but we modified the single view and added upcoming events to our homepage (http://www.dmu.edu). Also edited the ‘Add to calendar’ functionality a bit.”
Aside from how awesome it is to see our plugin at play on an institute of higher learning’s website, we really liked how Seth specifically updated the single event view. Check out a few examples he highlighted:
* http://www.dmu.edu/event/jasper-wine-tasting-2011/
* http://www.dmu.edu/event/chs-golf-benefit-2011/
* http://www.dmu.edu/event/les-miserables-in-minneapolis/The “Event has passed” yellow box is a nice touch, especially when seen in conjunction with a nice large featured image (like in the Les Mis example). The sidebar detail also does a very nice job of bringing out the cost/venue/organizer details more than they normally appear by default. Great work, Seth!
Now that someone has stepped forward to show what he’s done, we’re looking forward to hearing from some more of you…

January 21, 2012 at 6:36 pm #13774SamuelMemberHere’s my latest mod of ECP for a summer arts workshop here on vancouver island.
Has a non js version if its disabled in browser. Animated filtering. The homepage has a randomized jquery cycle of all workshops, and I also have a custom feed with featured images.

For another client they wanted it in facebook as well so i made them this:
http://www.facebook.com/victoriasymphony?sk=app_125867770857993
It follows current date forward, has like buttons for the event pages at the symphony website, allows tweeting of the pages from facebook.
That was the time when i notified your devs we need ssl support, so I could have an ssl version of that page to give facebook users who use fb in ssl.
I’m sure i’ll be doing a lot more with ECP, suits a lot of my clients and I am very happy with it.

January 22, 2012 at 4:27 pm #13803GraemeParticipantHi,
I was commissioned to design a site for an annual harp festival, their old website was terrible and stuck in the dark ages of poor design (flashing txt and no CMS, just awful). After and initial consultation (client questionnaire and meeting) to nail down the design requirements, I quickly set about sourcing the best way to implement an events system. For a variety of reasons I had already chosen WP as the CMS (not least of which being that I love it), and set about looking for an events system / method of using posts for events.
After much research and trying lots of techniques and plugins, I final settled on The Event Calander as my first choice. I’m glad I did. As well as the out of the box features you can find on this site, they main thing I looked for in an events system was flexibility to adapt the system to my needs. The Events Calander was pretty much spot n in that regard (despite one support forum post I needed to write regarding the simple – one would think – task of changing the event page title).
The documentation is quiet good, but could perhaps use more examples, but it’s good enough to get the job done if you have some coding experience.
So here is what I’ve built and released last week: http://harpfestival.co.uk/events/upcoming/
It’s to be used for a number of years for an annual 6 day festival. I think there is room for improvement, but the client is happy and that’s the man thing.
Let me know what you think.
January 23, 2012 at 11:22 am #13880RobMemberYou guys are doing great work…thanks to both Samuel and Graeme for sharing their sites. It’s so exciting to see sites going live taking vastly different approaches to the plugin and you guys are prime examples of that. Solid job and thanks again for sharing.
January 25, 2012 at 1:21 pm #14126Stephen GasserParticipantHello,
We at Vivid Image http://www.vimm.com currently use this plugin on approximately 50 of our websites.
On a very recent project of ours we decided to use it to create a auctions list. It gave us an opportunity really use the custom field and template functionality of the pro version.
The project is now a live website and good example of the some of the unique things we are doing with this plugin.
http://www.faheysales.com/events/upcoming/January 25, 2012 at 8:22 pm #14160RobMemberThat’s a great use for the plugin, vividimage – haven’t seen it put to the task on an auction site yet but you’ve done it with ease. Buttons directing users into the catalogue & brochure straight from the list view is a great touch. Thanks for sharing!
